The Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services (DPSCS) is seeking dedicated candidates to fill important roles within our department. POSITION DUTIES

A Chaplain is the full performance level or work providing chaplaincy and religious programming service to all faiths of a population in a correctional facility or at a State health facility. Employees in this classification do not supervise other Chaplains. Employees receive general supervision from a designated management official. Employees may be required to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Works cooperatively with the Volunteer Activities Coordinator in recruiting, screening, orienting, supervising, and terminating religious program volunteers, including volunteer clergymen and lay volunteers. 

Develops, monitors, and delivers worship services.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.

Experience: Two years of ministerial leadership experience following formal certification, or an acceptable equivalent experience, in that the applicant has fashioned a firm cleric identity.

Required Document: Chaplains must possess current endorsement from a recognized denominational authority. Initial appointment- The applicant’s relationship to the endorsing body must reflect a minimum two-year association before endorsement.  

Note: For education obtained outside the U.S., candidates are required to provide proof of the equivalent of American education as determined by a foreign credential evaluation services.  All information used to determine your qualifications must be submitted with the application by the closing date.

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

Candidate must be willing to work with other faith groups outside of their faith.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

1. A Bachelor's degree in the disciplines of Theology, Religious Studies, or Sacred Studies from an accredited institute, seminary, or equivalent.
2. One year of experience specifically counseling others or completion of one course in Clinical Pastoral education.
