Main Purpose of Job

The Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association (MPSSAA) provides participation opportunities in compliance of the State Board of Education Athletic Regulations. The MPSSAA provides for 112,000 student participants in 199 member schools with over 5,000 contest officials, 10,000 high school coaches, and 24 state tournaments for all 24 local school systems. This position provides technical assistance to local school systems, State tournament committee’s with emphasis on girls/women’s sports, promotion of girls/women’s sports, and compliance with equitable participation opportunities for girls/women’s sports. The position assists in the organization and administration of the 24 State tournaments with emphasis on girl/women’s sports sponsored by the MPSSAA. The position promotes high school sports and informs the general public on the cyclical schedule of athletic events for orderly, safe conduct of high school athletes across the State. The position assist in representing the interest of Maryland high schools to the National Federation of State High School Associations. Assist in the promotion of the goals and objectives of the Association and school improvement.

POSITION DUTIES

Provides technical assistance and coordination for the organization of sanctioned sports activities; establishes, implements, and monitors plans for state tournaments inclusive of emergency/disaster plans for state championship venues; assures  adherence to sanction regulations; administers memberships to State associations, and the collection financial receipts and payments; serves as liaison to corporate sponsors and establishes channels  for press releases inclusive of media/broadcast outlets; oversees procedure for press credentialing and maintains MPSSAA records; serves as the content monitor for information placed on the MPSSAA website.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:  A Master’s Degree or equivalent 36 post baccalaureate credit hours of course work in Secondary Education, Education Administration/Supervision, Sports Management, Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism or a closely related field.   
 
EXPERIENCE:  Three (3) years of professional administrative, teaching, or coaching experience in an area involving physical/sports education, sports management, interscholastic or collegiate athletics or other area involving girl’s/women’s athletics programs.

NOTE:
  1. Two additional years of experience as defined may substitute for the Master’s Degree. 
  2.  The above requirements are set by the Maryland State Department of Education in accordance with Education Article, Section 2-104.

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

One year of experience working with the interpretation and implementation of education-based athletic programs, tournaments, events, or other related athletic administration.  Experience in appropriate professional use of communication tools such as press releases, websites, and social media.  Experience in working as a team and sharing administrative duties.  

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of the administration and management of girl’s/women’s secondary school athletics programs; Knowledge of Maryland State Board and MPSSAA regulations governing interscholastic athletics; skill working with girl’s/women’s athletic programs; skill in managing multiple tasks and satisfying multiple deadlines; skill in communicating to a variety of audiences; ability to organize multiple events and schedules; ability to establish and maintain harmonious and productive relationships; ability to work effectively as part of a team.

LIMITATIONS ON SELECTION
