POSITION DUTIES

This is a contractual position responsible for generating and updating school facilities guidelines to support the mandate for the State Board under Education Article Section 2-205(l) to “establish standards and guides for planning and constructing school building projects.” Research, compile, and disseminate historical and current useful practices to support the mandate to “collect, publish, and distribute to the county boards information on school construction procedures, methods, and materials.”

The Office of School Facilities serves as the “school construction planning service” described in this section. Duties include generating and updating school facilities guidelines by assembling and working with teams of internal, school system, design profession, community, and industry stakeholders to produce useful guidelines in a range of school facility areas.  Examples include general classrooms, science classrooms, career and technology education, special education, library media centers, fine arts and performing arts, physical education, and outdoor spaces. Other duties include research into current useful practices in aspects of school facilities construction and maintaining this information for access and use by school systems.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Experience: Nine years of experience in administrative staff or professional work.  One year of this experience must have involved one or more of the following: the supervision of other employees, overseeing and coordinating the general operations of a unit, applying rules and regulations, or exercising responsibility for the development of policies or procedures. 

Notes: 1. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and five years of experience in administrative staff or professional work for the required experience.  One year of this experience must have involved one or more of the following:  the supervision of other employees, overseeing and coordinating the general operations of a unit, applying rules and regulations, or exercising responsibility for the development of policies or procedures. 

2. Candidates may substitute additional graduate level education at an accredited college or university at the rate of 30 credit hours on a year-for-year basis for the required experience. 

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer involving staff work related to the administration of rules, regulations, policy, procedures and processes, or overseeing or coordinating unit operations or functioning as a staff assistant to a higher ranking commissioned officer on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

Three years of the required experience must be in the fields of Architecture, Construction Management, or Engineering.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to applicants who possess the following preferred qualifications. Include clear and specific information on your application regarding your qualifications.

Experience in Educational or K-12 facilities planning 

Experience developing design guidelines/ standards, facility programs, or feasibility studies   

Experience writing, editing, or publishing media

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
