The Maryland Police & Correctional Training Commissions is seeking a qualified individual to fill the Assistant Director of Correctional Training vacancy.

POSITION DUTIES

The main purpose of this position is to assist the Director of Correctional Training by providing direct supervision to the various training managers and to act on behalf of the Director as needed.  The incumbent must be familiar with all training programs and operations of correctional agencies and institutions.

  • Coordination and oversight of in-service and entry-level training, as well as certification for all institutions throughout the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services (Department).
  • Coordinate with Training Directors, Regional Coordinators, and Program Managers to develop and provide training programs that address Departmental needs and maintain professional training for all Department employees.  Maintains familiarity with program approval process, approves programs, and maintains and oversees adjunct instructors for In-Service and Field Training programs.
  • Coordination and oversight of the Field Training Officer program for all institutions throughout the Department.
  • Schedules and coordinates training unit meetings at the direction of the Director to accomplish coordination and efficiency in an effort to accomplish the required training mandates.
  • Liaison with local government corrections managers and trainers to assist them in their training needs and assist in developing training as needed.
  • Represent the Executive Director, Deputy Director, or the Director of Correctional Training at meetings and public events as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Possession of a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, political science, public administration, public policy or related field.

Experience:  At least five (5) years of experience working in the field of adult corrections.  At least three (3) years of experience in a supervisory capacity.

Notes

1. Additional experience in the field of adult corrections may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.  

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to applicants who possess the following preferred qualification(s). Include clear and specific information on your application regarding your qualifications.

1.Experience in the training field and are familiarity with correctional training standards as defined by the Maryland Police & Correctional Training Commissions.

2. Willing to occasionally travel across the state in order to represent the Correctional Training Commission at various meetings and/or graduations. 

3.Good communication and organizational skills and be comfortable addressing large groups of individuals.
