Introduction

The Office of the Attorney General is seeking applicants for the position of Administrative Officer II at the People’s Insurance Counsel (“PIC”).

Main Purpose of Job

To complete analysis and review of property and casualty insurance rate filing and to provide opinions and recommendations for homeowners insurance filings and medical professional liability insurance filings made by insurers and other organizations to the Maryland Insurance Administration. To investigate insurance consumer complaints related to homeowners and medical professional liability insurance.

POSITION DUTIES

Position responsibilities include but are not limited to providing analytical, paralegal, and administrative support to assistant attorneys general in PIC. This position conducts document and data base management; draft and maintain correspondence, pleadings, and other documents; calendar management; mail; communication with consumers and other stakeholders by video, phone, or written communication. Additional responsibilities include tracking and analyzing complaints and filings including accessing, downloading, and maintaining filings from the SERFF system to an internal document management system; legal and  industry research; writes internal summaries; assist in hearing and trial preparation including legal research and document production; participation in outreach; and other duties as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:  Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university.

NOTES: 
1.  Applicants may substitute two years of experience drafting or analyzing insurance filings for a regulatory agency or paralegal experience, licensed insurer, or actuary firm for the above required education.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

1.  Knowledge of and experience working with Systems for Electronic Rate and Form Filing (SERFF)
2.  Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) or Association in Claims (AIC) designation or some completion of examination for an Associate of the Society of Actuaries (ASA) credentials
