Main Purpose of Job

The Office of the Attorney General is seeking applicants for the position of Casualty Actuarial Analyst/Investigator the People’s Insurance Counsel (“PIC”).  This position will provide analytical and administrative support to assistant attorneys general in PIC. 

The duties of PIC include the evaluation of all medical professional liability insurance and homeowners’ insurance matters. This includes review and analysis of filings and complaints pending before the Commissioner of the Maryland Insurance Administration (MIA) to determine whether the interests of insurance consumers are affected. PIC may conduct investigations and request the Commissioner to initiate an action or proceeding to protect the interests of insurance consumers. PIC may be a party to administrative hearings and court proceedings.  PIC participates in outreach to consumers.

POSITION DUTIES

The primary responsibilities include tracking and analyzing/investigating insurance filings from the SERFF system and consumer complaints. Some legal and  industry research; outreach participation; and other duties as needed. This position conducts document and data base management; draft and maintain written documents and correspondence; calendar management; mail; communication with consumers and other stakeholders.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor’s degree in business administration, actuarial studies, finance, mathematics or a related field from an accredited college or university.

Experience: One year of experience in a property/casualty insurance environment, with knowledge of personal lines rate filings. Ideal candidate would have knowledge of rate development methodologies, homeowners coverages and policy provisions.  Applicants must have excellent computer skills and ability to provide excellent consumer service and administrative skills as requested.  

Note: 

Applicants may substitute two years of experience drafting or analyzing insurance filings for a regulatory agency or licensed insurer, or actuary firm for the above required education. 

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

Experience with data base and MS office programs. 

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

1. Knowledge of and experience working with Systems for Electronic Rate and Form Filing (SERFF). 
2. Completion of (1) Society of Actuary exam.
3. Knowledge of rate development methodologies, homeowners coverages and policy provisions.
