The Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services (DPSCS) is seeking dedicated candidates to fill important roles within our department. POSITION DUTIES

This position is responsible for overseeing and reviewing processing of documents to establish the certification and renewal of the certification of public safety personnel including police and correctional certifications. This employee is also responsible for processing instructor certifications; and for the approval of programs for law enforcement and correctional agencies including all academies. This position also must have the ability to interpret statute and legislation to provide feedback to client agencies. To oversee the unit in the absence of the Unit Administrator.

Supervises and processes as necessary any requests for initial certification, certification renewal and recertification of Maryland public safety professionals. To include evaluating submissions to the Certification Unit that contain supplemental information to ensure the packets are complete before referral to the Administrator and Executive Management Team. 

Reviews, approves and processes applications for instructor certifications for Maryland public safety professionals.

Reviews, approves and processes training program approval requests for client agencies including all academies.  Issue certificates for the academies.
Responds to questions, concerns and inquiries relating to statute or certification requirements for all public safety professionals.

Verifies and inputs entrance Level Training and Field Training received by the certification unit. 

Supervises, reviews, approves and processes as necessary notices of personnel action submitted to the Certification Unit.

Provides support and record maintenance of the certification management database for all public safety professionals and ensures the accuracy of agency training records, and mandated personnel and certification records.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:  Graduation from high school or possession of equivalency certificate.

Experience:  Four years performing administrative support duties.

One year of experience supervising administrative personnel.

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants must meet the selective qualification(s) to be considered. Include clear and specific information on your application regarding your qualifications.

1. Two years working as a training coordinator with a public safety training agency.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to applicants who possess the following preferred qualification(s). Include clear and specific information on your application regarding your qualifications.

1. At least three years of experience working in a fast paced environment with demonstrated skills in multi-tasking, managing deadlines and working with various computer software systems, including MS Word, MS Excel and training database systems or certification tracking system.

2. At least two years of experience reviewing and interpreting regulations and/or state laws.

3. Experience preparing accurate and professional correspondence and working with confidential records and documents.
