LOCATION OF POSITION
Maryland Public Television
11767 Owings Mills Blvd
Owings Mills MD 21117
Main Purpose of Job
This position will provide experienced, high quality service to
regional and national productions as well as non-broadcast special projects; to
function as a director / technical director and or a videographer as the
situation warrants. Will be responsible for the "look" of the program
and coordination of all technical facilities and personnel in studio and
location for multi-camera productions. Contemporary production practices
dictate that producers move beyond the confines of the studio and go to the
story directly, regardless of where it is. The ability to record high quality
material on location, despite its limitations, is the prime asset of the
videographer.
This is a Special Appointment position, and serves at the pleasure
of the Appointing Authority.
POSITION DUTIES
Director in studio and on Location: coordination of
production elements, to include pre-production meetings, planning, and
consulting.
Provide expert advice to producers, designers, and engineers
during the planning stage; supervise the production team and the performing
talent during production.
Responsible for developing a product that fits the
requirements of the Producer/Client.
Act as a liaison between Producer and production personnel.
Communicate with talent, producers or other personnel at
remote locations.
Perform duties as a Technical Director (operating production
switcher, graphics equipment, timing segments, etc.).
Direct on Location: Similar to studio production in terms of
finished product, however, the challenges include adapting the location into a
"studio" with lights, sets, cameras, audio, and using a remote truck
and rented equipment instead of the familiar "in-house" facilities.
Operates portable equipment, such as video camera and
accessories, microphones and audio mixer, lights and lighting related
accessories, production equipment and transport vehicle with the objective of
recording video and audio for use in a production.
Works with minimum supervision, while maintaining high
standards of video production.
Thorough knowledge of the camera is necessary, including use
and basic maintenance.
The position requires a firm grasp of the aesthetics of
photography, camera movement and composition, plus facility with camera
recorded audio.
The incumbent is responsible for the direction of on-camera
talent, and the quality of the talent's performance.
Assemble and disassemble sets, move and hang fixtures from a
studio grid, assist the lighting director, and setup and/or strike equipment
after a production.
Perform in the role of floor director, camera operator,
production assistant, robotic camera operator or teleprompter operator.
On location, the position will perform the same functions
with portable television production equipment.
The Videographer/Director must drive the state vehicles in a
responsible manner. Maryland Public Television's name is on every
videographer’s van. The videographer must also maintain log sheet for regular
maintenance.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

experience.
