Main Purpose of Job

Laboratory accreditation standards require a dedicated quality assurance manager to ensure that the activities carried out by the laboratory meet accreditation standards. This position ensures all OCME Toxicology Laboratory operations conform to accreditation standards for the laboratory accrediting body. Additionally, this position ensures OCME operations conform to Maryland statutory and regulatory requirements.

This position will be managing and enforcing the laboratory policies and procedures ensuring the toxicology department remains in compliance with accreditation requirements, along with performing lead functions over the Assistant Toxicologist staff. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:   A Master’s degree in chemistry, forensic chemistry, toxicology, pharmaceutical science, or related field from an accredited college or university.

Experience: Four years of forensic toxicology experience, including one year of performing quality assurance related duties. 

Certification: Diplomate or higher certification from the American Board of Forensic Toxicology or the ability to become certified within one year of eligibility.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred candidates should possess the following:

  • Knowledge of college level chemistry, laboratory procedures, practices, and instruments.
  • Ability to learn the application of standard precautions in handling potentially infectious biological materials and hazardous chemicals.
  • Proficiency in excel for statistical analyses and other calculations.

This is a Management Service position and serves at the pleasure of the Appointing Authority.  A resume must accompany your application.
