Maryland Public
Television is a leader in the production of broadcast programming for
public television. MPT's local/regional television credits include public
affairs, original performance, entertainment, and documentary programs for
the citizens of Maryland. Beyond broadcast, MPT creates instructional
videos, develops training, and builds internet sites that serve tens
of thousands of students, teachers, and child-care providers annually.
MPT's outreach activities, especially relating to arts, culture, and
history, take place in all areas of the state to further fulfill MPT's
mission to engage, enlighten, and entertain.

Main Purpose of Job
The incumbent will provide support as a production
technician with activities in both studio and on location in regards to
operation of various equipment needed to allow for the successful completion of
a broadcast quality video production. Assist lighting director to the
completion of lighting for a production. Contemporary production practices
dictate that producers move beyond the confines of the studio and go to the
story directly, regardless of where it is. As a production technician, develop
the ability to record high quality material on location, despite its
limitations, is the prime asset of the videographer.
POSITION DUTIES
Operates as part of a television production crew.
Assemble and disassemble sets, move and hang fixtures from a
studio grid, assist in programming and operating studio lighting boards.
Maintain existing lighting plots for productions.
During actual production, one must be able to competently
perform in the role of floor director, camera operator, production assistant,
robotic camera operator and teleprompter operator.
Train in the following area to operate portable equipment
with the objective of recording video and audio for use in a production.
Offer direction to on-camera talent and the quality of
the talent's performance.
Drive the state vehicles in a responsible manner along with
maintaining a log sheet for regular maintenance.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession
of a high school equivalency certificate.
Experience: Two (2) years of experience in the field of television or film as part of a production team.
Note:
Candidates may substitute a Bachelor’s degree in media,
film, communications, journalism, or related field of study and one (1) year of
experience in the field of television or film as part of a production team for
the required experience.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Strong preference will be given to applicants that possess
the following. Include clear and specific information on your application
regarding the qualification(s).
Experience with operating studio and location video cameras
and video switching equipment for television productions.
Experience applying creative and technical videography
skills in a wide variety of indoor and outdoor settings to successfully record
video and audio for broadcast and digital video reports, documentaries, and
stories.
Experience with determining which techniques and tools
(i.e., cameras, microphones, sliders and gimbals) are appropriate to use for
different styles and settings of shoots to most successfully achieve the goals
for the story, report, program or project.
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
Employees in this classification may be assigned duties
which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties
will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the
State of Maryland.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Applicants are required to provide a copy of a demo reel or
link for a demo reel, if selected for an interview.
This position may require a flexible work schedule including
nights, weekends, and holidays.
This position may require working outside in unfavorable or
harsh weather conditions that might include exposure to the sun, wind, water,
etc.
This position may include long periods of walking, standing,
climbing, and maneuvering in and around tight spaces.
The selected candidate will be required to lift equipment in
excess of 50 pounds.
The selected candidate may be required to climb ladders and
use motorized lifts in order to operate and install in-studio lights.
