The Maryland Department of Agriculture is recruiting for a year round contractual technician in the Mosquito Control Program, to provide services in Anne Arundel County.  A Department vehicle will be provided to perform field work in the assigned areas.  On the job training will be provided.

Contractual employees are paid an hourly rate for actual hours worked.  Subsidized health benefits and paid leave available.

Main Purpose of Job

This is a year-round position to assist with mosquito control activities in Anne Arundel County. Larviciding and complaint response will be conducted during the season, and during the offseason this position will be responsible to calculate Minimum Infection rates and Vector indicies for all trap locations.

POSITION DUTIES

Mosquito Control Technician

  • Conduct larviciding services in the assigned areas.
  • Respond to complaints that are downloaded from an online complaint system.
  • Calculate Minimum Infection rates and Vector indices in assigned region for all trap locations.
  • Utilize State vehicle and larviciding equipment in a safe manner, following all policies and guidelines.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High School Diploma or GED required.
Minimum age 18.  
Must have valid drivers license with no more than 5 points on driving record.

Drivers license valid in Maryland with no more than 5 points on driving record.

SELECTION PROCESS

BENEFITS

Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.

Leave may be granted to a contractual employee who has worked 120 days in a 12 month period. This leave accrues at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
