This position will be required to travel throughout the State of Maryland.

Main Purpose of Job

This position will be responsible for assisting in the MDH warehouse and for delivery driving.  This position will drive a larger box truck to make deliveries and perform transfers of materials to sites and/ or transfer between locations. The incumbent will be expected to operate liftgates on the truck and to use a manual pallet jack to effect deliveries. Since the trucks are under 26,000 gvw, a regular driver's license is required (CDL is not required).  Upon selection, the candidate will be required to complete a driver training module once onboarded.

Incumbent may be also called upon to operate warehouse equipment such as forklifts, powered pallet jack and manual pallet jacks to move palletized load around any MDH warehouses as needed. The incumbent selected will operate in a variety of settings at warehouses and delivery sites.  These sites may be indoors or outdoors, and candidates will potentially work in noisy, crowded busy environments.  The nature of the work is physical, and candidates will regularly handle heavy loads and would be expected to lift 50 pounds or more routinely.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Qualified candidates must possess a valid driver's license.

If the issuing state is outside of Maryland, then a certified driving record must be submitted.  The driving record must have less than 6 points to be considered for the position.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

 Preferred candidates should possess a valid certification to operate a forklift.

SELECTION PROCESS

Candidates may remain on the certified eligible list for a period of at least one year. The resulting certified eligible list for this recruitment may be used for similar positions in this or other State agencies.

BENEFITS

Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.

Leave may be granted to a contractual employee who has worked 120 days in a 12 month period. This leave accrues at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
