Main Purpose of Job

This full time contractual position supports people with developmental disabilities and their to lead meaningful lives, fully integrated in their communities throughout Maryland. This position is supervised by the DDA’s Director of Family Support in conjunction with the Central Regional Director (CRD). This position is responsible for carrying out and implementing policy, regulation and practices to create a flexible, person-centered and family friendly system to support families across the lifespan to live their best lives! This is done at both the regional and local level. This position also provides feedback on policy, practices and DDA/CMRO communications; facilitates family forums; provides ongoing person and family–friendly information sessions; participates in community events; develops relationships and collaborates with self-advocates, families, local schools systems, Transition Coordinators and other community stakeholders; assists families in navigating state and local systems to obtain the support and services they need in collaboration with Coordinators of Community Supports (CCS). This position maintains and updates a listing of key state and local resources; completes the Charting the LifeCourse (CtLC) Ambassador Series, and participates in ongoing opportunities - local, state and national supporting family’s conferences and workshops - to enhance knowledge and skills in implementing CtLC related to supporting families. This position also participates in the MD Community of Practice for Supporting Families’ and establishes a Regional CoP for Supporting Families to provide training on the principles and tools of CtLC to families and their family members with I/DD and facilitates “Peer to Peer” networking opportunities; facilitates and coordinates RCoP training and monthly meetings; collects data; and provides ongoing monitoring, evaluation and assessment of these activities.


Education:   A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in nursing, social work, psychology, education, counseling or a related field.

Experience: Three years of professional experience in health services, two years must have been in the Developmental Disabilities option.


1. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in a health or      human service field for one year of the required general experience.

2. Experience in the Developmental Disabilities option must be as follows: professional work related to the support services and programs for developmentally disabled clients.

3. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in another field plus one additional year of professional experience in health services for the required education.

4. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Health Care Administration classifications or Civil Affairs Specialist specialty codes in the health related field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education.


The desired candidate should have personal experience with a family member who has intellectual and developmental disabilities, experience Charting the Life Course for people with intellectual disabilities, and experience with Community Practice.
