POSITION DUTIES

To provide a means for every property owner in the State to appeal the valuation established for tax purposes by the Dept. of Assessments & Taxation.  To ensure that every appeal is heard in a timely manner and that all decisions are rendered in writing within 30 days.

Process appeals, assign appeal numbers, send petitioner acknowledgement of appeal.  Type dockets and hearing notices to send to petitioners and notify the Department of Assessments & Taxation Assessor and Board Members with a copy.  Type and prepare Board's decision orders to be mailed to petitioners and the Department of Assessments & Taxation.  Compile information for Maryland Tax Court cases.  Answer Summons and Subpoena's sent by the Maryland Tax Court.  Prepare board room for hearings.  Order all office supplies.  Keep record and sign off of payroll vouchers for Board Members and sign timesheets.  Monitor, compile and complete reports pertaining to caseload data.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Three years performing secretarial or clerical work involving typing duties.

Notes: 

1. Additional secretarial or clerical experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

2. Thirty credit hours with a major in secretarial science or office technology from an accredited college may be substituted at the rate of thirty credits for one year of experience for up to two years of the required experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Administration classifications or Administrative, Clerical, or Office Services specialty codes in the Administrative Support field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.  

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to applicants who possess the following preferred qualification(s). Include clear and specific information on your application regarding your qualifications.

1. Experience working with board members
2. Experience using Workday for payroll purposes 
3. Experience creating and maintaining spreadsheets in Google and Excel 
4. Experience scheduling meetings and or hearings 
5. Experience drafting letters and official documents 
6. Customer Service experience 
7. Type at least 40 words a minute

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Demonstrated ability to accurately type on a keyboard of a personal computer at a minimum of forty words per minute may be required, depending on the specific requirements of the position.

EXAMINATION PROCESS

The examination will consist of a rating of your education, training, and experience as presented on your application and as they relate to the requirements of the position.  You may be asked to complete a supplemental questionnaire.  The supplemental questionnaire may be used as part of the rating process.  Therefore, it is important that you provide complete and accurate information on your application.
