Introduction

This is a Position Specific recruitment for Department of Assessments and Taxation- Charter Filing and Processing Unit. The resulting eligible list will be used to fill positions at the above locations only.

POSITION DUTIES

To respond to taxpayer inquiries, prepares personal property returns for data entry and to send back personal property returns that are incomplete with a suitable explanation for the rejection/refund.

To answer forfeiture telephone lines for the following reasons: (1) for inquiries concerning rejection reasons for personal property returns, and (2) answer forfeiture questions when forfeiture notices go out.

Sends out rejection letters indicating reasons why personal property returns are rejected

Sorts through rejected personal property returns to determine reasons for rejection, then distributes to correct destination for processing and sends back check.


Serves as back up prepare for data entry the personal property returns, franchise returns and penalty payments. This task includes assuring that checks are for correct amount, made out properly and signed. Checks completion of personal property returns. Collates returns for proper batching for the day’s input. Keeps records of rejected items or those needing research.

Prepares personal property checks and payments for processing.

Opens, sorts and prepare mail on a daily basis.

Performs various other duties as assigned; which may include but not limited to supporting other teams when appropriate participates in training provided by management for any job duty deficiencies, regularly checks and responds to emails and follows SDAT’s Customer Service Policy.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Three years of experience performing clerical duties.

Notes: 

1. Additional experience performing clerical duties may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

 2. Applicants may substitute education from an accredited college or university at the rate of thirty semester credit hours for one year of experience on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

 3. Six months clerical training with three courses in subjects such as keyboarding, clerical math, word processing, spreadsheets, data base, graphics presentation, proofreading, or office etiquette may be substituted for six months of the required experience.

4. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Administrative classifications or in Administrative, Clerical, or Office Services specialty codes in the Clerical Support field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to applicants who possess the following preferred qualification(s). Include clear and specific information on your application regarding your qualifications.
1. Experience using Microsoft Office and entering data into a database system. 
2. Experience using a Multi-line phone system. 
3. Experience working with the public via telephone and in person. 
4. Experience performing mathematical computations including calculating percentages.

Must be willing to work in Baltimore city.
