Introduction

The Maryland Department of Labor is accepting applications from qualified candidates for the position of Administrative Specialist I. This position encompasses multiple areas of responsibilities and is requisite to providing excellence in customer services provided by the Office of General Services.

Main Purpose of Job

This position encompasses multiple areas of responsibilities and is requisite to providing excellence in customer services provided by the Office of General Services.(OGS). The primary purpose of this position is to provide consistent and dependable support to the daily record destruction/recycling operations for the Department of Labor as well as provide administrative and operational support to the departments within the Office of General Services (OGS) related but not limited to fleet management, central supply, fixed asset team and records management. This position relates to the agency’s mission in that it provides consistent and dependable support for LABOR employees who, through their efforts, provide economic stability to the citizens of Maryland.

POSITION DUTIES

Duties of this position include, but are not limited to:
  • Provides support to the OGS Property Officer. This includes the number of lines in service, type of equipment and location, and all information relative to a fixed asset. 
  • Consults with the Record Manager to aid in the disposal and record destruction/recycling
  • Assist higher-level administrators in formulating and preparing an agency's budget or portions of the budget.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:   Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: One year of experience performing administrative staff, clerical, clerical technical, or secretarial work.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute 30 credit hours from an accredited college or university for the required experience.

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer involving staff work requiring regular use of independent judgment and analysis in applying and interpreting rules and regulations in accordance with agency laws and policies on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to applicants who possess the following preferred qualification(s). Include clear and specific information on your application regarding your qualifications.

Experience working in a supply room conducting a periodic inventory of supplies, materials and equipment to reconcile in ADPICS.

Experience working with Maryland Inventory Tracking System.

Experience working with Confidential Recycling Records Destruction Unit.

LIMITATIONS ON SELECTION

This position is limited to current State of Maryland employees only.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

All candidates are subject to a background check against files maintained by the Division of Unemployment Insurance (Department of Labor/DUI) to determine whether any monies are owed to Department of Labor/DUI as a result of unemployment overpayment/fraud. Any unpaid debt may have an impact on whether or not a candidate is offered employment.
