Main Purpose of Job
The main purpose of this position is the lead Electrician position at Facility Sustainment Team (FST). This position will travel to facilities in the Baltimore regional and possible statewide for forty-two (42) Maryland Army & Air National Guard Facilities, including 342 buildings, 1 operational airfield and 4 military training sites as needed or assigned. This position is Emergency Essential.
POSITION DUTIES
Duties for this position include but are not limited to:

Installs, repairs, tests and maintains electrical
equipment and fixtures such as fluorescent and incandescent units, conduit
tubing and boxes, wiring, panels, antennas, outlets, fans, washing and drying
machines and ranges; electrical systems such as fire and security systems,
communication systems, heating and cooling systems and overhead and underground
distribution systems; and control devices such as switches, fuses, ballasts,
generators, motors, compressors, relays and transformers.

Services
and repairs electrical systems and units by replacing fuses, coils, switches,
wiring and transformers.
·
Locates and determines malfunctions in
electrical systems, equipment and controls using testing equipment such as test
lights, ohmmeters, ammeters, voltmeters, and oscilloscopes.
·
Performs
routine preventive maintenance on electrical systems, equipment and machinery,
such as inspecting controls, switches, meters, fuses, wires, motors, generators
and transformers and by tightening screws, wires and contacts.
·
Reviews blueprints, wiring diagrams and
schematics to determine the location of wiring, electrical devices and
equipment in order to ensure compliance with code and safety regulations.
·
Calculates the load capacity of electrical
wiring and equipment to ensure electrical compatibility and safety of
components.
·
Measures, cuts, bends, threads, assembles, and
installs conduits using tools such as hacksaws, pipe threaders and conduit
benders.
·
Splices
and connects wiring to lighting fixtures and power equipment using knives, pliers,
electrician's tape, and manual tools.
·
Completes
work orders, maintenance and repair logs and other reports in order to track
and document work performed and to record materials and supplies used.

May assist in repairing, replacing, and maintaining
systems containing pneumatic, hydraulic, electronic, steam or hot water
controls.
·
May inspect and make minor repairs to switch
gear and transformers leading into the facilities' sub-station.
·
May take inventory of electrical materials,
supplies, parts, and tools.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Eighth grade.
Experience: Four years of experience in the building maintenance or building construction trades including three years of experience assigning, reviewing and approving the work of other building maintenance or building construction workers.
Note: Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military experience at a rank of Corporal/Petty Officer or higher, as a non-commissioned officer in utilities classifications or mechanical maintenance management specialty codes in utility systems repair, on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Preferred Qualifications
* Four years of experience working in the Electrical field with facility maintenance.
* Demonstrated ability to work independently on all minor to moderate Electrical repairs, installations, and maintenance.
* In a Journeyman or Journeywoman program or willing to enroll in a program in this field.
* Demonstrated willingness to be trained and learn new skills in this trade, as this position has the potential to move up the Maintenance Chief series to a Senior Electrical Technician (Maintenance Chief IV, Non Lic).
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland with less than 5 points on their driving record.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
This position will require the ability to pass a federal security check in addition to a State & Federal background check to obtain a CAC ID card to access military installations and computer systems. The ability to obtain and maintain a CAC ID Card is a condition of employment for this position.
This position requires statewide travel.
