POSITION DUTIES

This position is responsible for supervising and administering treatments, rehabilitation, diagnostic evaluations and care of patients with deficiencies and abnormalities of the cardiopulmonary system by providing respiratory therapy services. This position will provide technical advice and guidance on respiratory care procedures to subordinate respiratory therapists and health care professionals.

Vaccine Requirement: Per the emergency regulation issued by the U.S. Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) (86 FR 61555), and as permitted to go into effect by the U.S. Supreme Court on January 13, 2022, all staff of the MDH Healthcare System facilities required to show proof of first dose or single dose of COVID-19 vaccination 14 days after start date of employment. Staff includes, but is not limited to, regular and contractual employees, contractual staff, volunteers, and other state employees performing any duties at the facility. All staff are required to complete the full shot regimen, including any booster shot, as clinically indicated in order to satisfy this requirement. Candidates with an approved medical or religious reason for vaccination exemption must provide proof of exemption prior to appointment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:   Determined by the Maryland State Board of Physicians under the licensing requirements for a Respiratory Care Practitioner.

Experience: One year of experience as a Respiratory Care Practitioner.

Note: Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Respiratory Specialist classifications or Respiratory Therapy specialty codes in the Respiratory Therapy field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience. 

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The desired candidate should possess the following:
  • Experience interpreting arterial blood gas (ABG) tests
  • Experience performing preventative maintenance on respiratory equipment
  • Experience performing airway management to include: trach changes, decannulation and routine care of trach

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Candidates for positions in this classification must possess a current license as a Respiratory Care Practitioner from the Maryland State Board of Physicians, 4201 Patterson Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland 21215.

2. Employees in this classification are required to successfully complete and maintain current certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Candidates for this classification may be given a medical examination prior to appointment to determine their ability to perform the work of the position.

2. Employees in this classification may be required to provide the facility with a telephone number at which they can be reached.

3. Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 06.01.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.
