The Department of Service and Civic Innovation was established by the Serving Every Region Through Vocational Exploration (SERVE) Act of 2023 with the purpose of promoting service and volunteerism in the state of Maryland. The SERVE Act also launched two new exciting service pathways for eligible youth and adults, in addition to existing volunteer and service opportunities available through​ the Governor's Office on Service and Volunteerism and Volunteer Maryland.

Main Purpose of Job

Serves on a team of Member Support Specialists responsible for providing the full range of recruitment, selection, pre-service, in-service, and post-service technical support services for Service Year Option (SYO) or Maryland Corps Members who are serving throughout Maryland.   Specific responsibilities of the Member Support Specialists include:  assisting with completion of the candidate onboarding; coordinating arrangements for SYO/Maryland Corps to attend Pre Service Orientation (PSO); providing on-site staff support at trainings as required; and reviewing of enter on duty documentation; processing any required information for payroll related actions; answering member questions about wrap around services and other issues during the year of service via phone, email and chat, processing early termination and close-out paperwork the member.   Independently performs assigned duties within defined guidelines and seeks assistance of team leader in the event of unusual or precedent cases.  Day-to-day work is supported and monitored by a team leader and overall quality/quantity of performance is informed by other DSCI Staff.

POSITION DUTIES

The Department of Service and Civic Innovation is seeking 3 enthusiastic individuals to serve in the member support services team.

Serves as a member support services specialist, conducting outreach, reviewing candidate data and providing assistance to applicants, members, alumni, supervisors and DSCI staff to include responding to member information requests, follow up and orientation support. The employee must demonstrate excellent customer service skills.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Four years of administrative staff or professional work.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute 30 college credit hours from an accredited college or university for each year up to four years of the required experience.

2. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university for the required experience.

3. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Master's degree from an accredited college or university for the required experience.

4. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer involving staff work related to the administration of rules, regulations, policy, procedures and processes, or overseeing or coordinating unit operations or functioning as a staff assistant to a higher ranking commissioned officer on a year-for- year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to applicants who possess the following preferred qualification(s). Include clear and specific information on your application regarding your qualifications.

1. One year of service-related experience (e.g., AmeriCorps, Peace Corps, Jesuit Volunteer Corps or other) or one year of working in a setting with young adults (e.g., residence hall, university, AmeriCorps program, etc.) or in an Apprenticeship program.
2. One year of experience in Microsoft Office (i.e., Word, Excel).

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
