Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to perform the duties of the Director of Plant Management to ensure that all buildings, equipment and utilities are kept in optimum working condition and in compliance with current NFPA, The Joint Commission, OSHA, and MOSHA standards, to ensure that the mission and goals of the hospital can be met. This involves a maximum-security facility psychiatric hospital of 355,626 sq. feet; 69 acres; approx. 600+ staff and approx. 238 + patients.

Areas of responsibility and supervision includes, but not limited to: Transportation, housekeeping, utilities, biomedical equipment, preventive maintenance, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, boiler room, grounds keeping, and property management to include snow and ice removal/management.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:   Eighth grade.

Experience: Nine years experience in stationary engineering, building maintenance or building construction trades including eight years of responsibility assigning, reviewing and approving the work of others and disciplining, evaluating the performance of and recommending the hiring, firing and promoting of others.

Note: Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience at a rank of Corporal/Petty Officer or higher as a non-commissioned officer in utilities classifications or mechanical maintenance specialty codes in the utility systems repair field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The desired candidate should possess the following:
  • Experience servicing and maintaining boiler plants and chillers
  • General plumbing and electrical experience in a high-use hospital environment
  • Experience with contracts and requisitions for parts and services to maintain the plant and facilities

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification series may be assigned duties that require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
