POSITION DUTIES

This position will operate as the Program Director managing the Dietary Department of Deer’s Head Hospital Center. The position has managerial responsibility for professional food service, nutrition and support staff. This position ensures dietary compliance with regulations for chronic disease, nursing home, kidney dialysis, and hospice. This position maintains continuous licensure by the Maryland Board of Dietetic Practices.

Per the Amended Directive and Order Regarding Vaccination (MDH # 2023.04.18.03) issued by the Secretary of the Maryland Department of Health, effective April 18, 2023, staff in all hospitals and residential facilities operated by the Maryland Department of Health or any local health department are required to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination. Staff includes, but is not limited to, regular and contractual employees, contractual staff, volunteers, and other state employees performing any duties at the facility. An individual may request an accommodation by providing appropriate and sufficient documentation for bona fide medical or religious reasons.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:  Determined by the Maryland State Board of Dietetic Practice under the licensing requirements for Nutritionists and Dietitians.

Experience: Five years of experience providing professional nutrition or dietetic services which includes three years in a residential or hospital setting and two years managing a clinical and administrative phase of a dietetic program.

Notes: 

1. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in the field of dietetics, nutrition, institutional administration or other related field for up to one year of the required experience.

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Dietitian and Nutritionist classifications or Dietitian and Nutritionist specialty codes in the Dietitian field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The desired candidate should possess the following:
  • Experience overseeing dietary services for a long-term care facility
  • Experience providing nutrition services for patients with diabetic and renal diagnostics  

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Candidates for positions in this classification must possess a current license as a Dietitian/Nutritionist from the Maryland State Board of Dietetic Practice.

2. Candidates for positions in this classification must be registered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) prior to completion of probationary period and must maintain a current registration during their time of employment. Candidates who are currently registered should submit proof of CDR registration with application.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Employees in this classification may be required to provide the facility with a telephone number where they can be reached.
