POSITION DUTIES

The main purpose of this merit part time position as a Dental Assistant plays a pivotal role in the provision of Dental Services at the Carroll County Health Department’s Medicaid Pediatric and Pregnant Women Dental Clinic. Position responsibilities include chairside assistance for dentist(s) including general administrative work such as room prep and charting, patient flow consisting of, but limited to greeting and discharge with follow up appointment scheduling, schedule oversight, daily room prep and maintenance, patient charting, daily infection control of operatories and dental instruments, inventory control and maintenance of equipment. As a member of the Oral Health Staff, the Dental Assistant may have community involvement and Emergency Preparedness responsibilities, as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:   Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: One year of experience assisting a Dentist in the performance of dental care.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute additional experience as a Dental Assistant on a year for year basis for the required education.

2. Candidates may substitute listing as a Dental Assistant qualified in general duties on the roster of the Maryland Board of Dental Examiners for the required experience.

3. Applicants may substitute successful completion of Dental Assistant training program for the required experience.

4. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Dental Assistant classifications or Dental Assistant or Specialist specialty codes in the Dental field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Candidates for positions in this classification may be required to provide a registration card upon application that they are qualified to place and expose x-rays or radiographs and are listed as a Dental Assistant on the roster of the Maryland Board of Dental Examiners.

2. Employees in this classification may be required to successfully complete training in and maintain a current cardiopulmonary resuscitation certification.

For education obtained outside the U.S., any job offer will be contingent on the candidate providing an evaluation for equivalency by a foreign credential evaluation service prior to starting employment (and may be requested prior to interview).
