Main Purpose of Job

The Director of Nursing serves as the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) for Western Maryland Hospital Center (WMHC) which consists of two Comprehensive Care Units and a Long Term Acute Care Unit. The CNO is responsible for developing, planning and implementing an integrated program of nursing services using evidence-based practices to ensure that each resident and patient receives the highest quality of care.

The Chief Nursing Officer provides clinical and administrative direction to the Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) and provides oversight to the nursing department as a whole.

The CNO reports to the CEO and serves as a member of the Senior Leadership Team. As a Senior member, the CNO participates in forecasting, strategic planning and facility wide decision making.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Qualified applicants must possess a master's degree in nursing or related field from an accredited college or university and five years of medical/clinical nursing experience (as a registered nurse) of which at least three years must have been in a supervisory, teaching or administrative capacity.

A bachelor's degree in nursing or related field from an accredited college or university, together with seven years of medical/clinical nursing experience (as a registered nurse) of which at least five years must have been in a supervisory, teaching or administrative capacity is also qualifying. A Ph.D. in nursing from an accredited college or university may be substituted for two years of general experience.

Qualified candidates must possess a license as a Registered Nurse by the Maryland Board of Nursing.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Desired candidates should possess the following experience:
  • with regulatory compliance to include OHCQ, CMS, CARF, and The Joint Commission Standards
  • writing/crafting policy and implementation
  •  implementing and/or carrying out performance and quality improvement initiatives in a medical facility
  • working with an 8 and 12 hour shift schedule

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Candidates for positions in this classification must possess a current license as a Registered Nurse from the Maryland State Board of Nursing, 4140 Patterson Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland 21215.
