As part of the Maryland State Department of Education, the Division of Rehabilitation Services (DORS) provides services to assist students with disabilities prepare for the work world, vocational rehabilitation services to assist adults with significant disabilities who are seeking to enter or reenter the workforce, and the adjudication of Social Security disability claims for the citizens of Maryland.

POSITION DUTIES

Join our team in this clinical level position with the Division of Rehabilitation Services, Rehabilitation Technology Services Program. This program specializes in the application of Physical Therapy Services to promote employment, economic self-sufficiency, and independence of individuals with disabilities. Services occur within the Workforce & Technology Center, individuals' homes, the community, and worksites.

Position Duties Include:

  • Performing detailed and comprehensive clinical assessment of individuals with severe disabilities to determine their functional capability to actively participate in their vocational goals. 
  • Conducting Functional Capacity Evaluations, Occupational-Physical Therapy Evaluations (completed collaboratively with an Occupational Therapist), standard PT evaluations, scooter and wheelchair evaluations, Home Modification Evaluations for physical access, workstation design, seating and positioning, and ergonomics
  • Making recommendation that address individuals' physical abilities and functional limitations, and meet targeted goals
  • Prescribing durable medical equipment, appliances, orthotics, and/or prosthetics for individuals with severe disabilities to improve their functional independence and/or employability
  • Providing group and individual instruction regarding proper body mechanics, workstation comfort and ergonomics, and use of durable medical equipment to enhance independence (e.g. scooters and walkers)
  • Maintaining lab equipment to ensure safe and full operation, and all testing materials are current and meet industry standards
  • Providing guidance and consultative assistance to referral sources 
  • Performing case management duties and completes required documentation, including comprehensive evaluation reports

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:   Determined by the Maryland State Board of Physical Therapy Examiners under the licensing requirements for Physical Therapists

Experience: Three years of experience as a Physical Therapist

Notes:

1. A Master’s degree in Physical Therapy from an accredited college or university may be substituted for two years of the required experience.

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Therapy classifications or Therapy specialty codes in the Physical Therapy field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Candidates for positions in this classification must possess a current license as a Physical Therapist from the Maryland State Board of Physical Therapy Examiners, 4140 Patterson Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland 21215.

2. Employees in this classification may be required to successfully complete and maintain current certification of cardiopulmonary resuscitation training.

3. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of an automobile. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  1. Candidates must consent to State Police Investigation (fingerprinting) as a routine procedure for all employees with this Agency.
  2. Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 17.04.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs. 
  3. Employees in this classification will be required to provide the employer with a phone number where they can be reached.
  4. Employee must have the ability to stand and walk for extensive periods of time.
  5. Employee must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  6. Employee must be able to frequently stoop, bend, reach, push and pull.
