POSITION DUTIES
As a Senior Network Administrator, you will be responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of our network infrastructure. You will work with a variety of technologies, including Cisco routers and switches, VMware vSphere, Microsoft Windows servers, Cisco Unified Communications Manager, Microsoft Azure, Microsoft Office 365, and Unitrends recovery appliances. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in network administration, possess in-depth knowledge of the aforementioned technologies, and be able to effectively support and optimize our network environment.
1. Design, configure, and maintain our network infrastructure, including Cisco routers, switches, and firewalls, to ensure optimal performance, security, and reliability.
2. Configure, monitor, and support backend SAN storage racks and supporting network.
3. Manage and monitor VMware vSphere virtualization environment, including virtual machine provisioning, resource allocation, and performance optimization.
4. Administer Microsoft Windows servers, ensuring proper configuration, patch management, and system performance.
5. Configure and maintain Cisco Unified Communications Manager (CUCM) to support our VoIP telephony system, including phone provisioning, call routing, and voice quality optimization.
6. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate Microsoft Azure services and Office 365 applications into our network environment, ensuring seamless connectivity and secure access.
7. Implement and maintain backup and disaster recovery solutions using Unitrends recovery appliances, including regular backups, system restoration, and testing of recovery processes.
8. Monitor network performance, identify bottlenecks or issues, and proactively implement solutions to optimize network performance and ensure high availability.
9. Conduct regular security assessments, identify vulnerabilities, and implement appropriate measures to protect the network infrastructure from unauthorized access, malware, and other threats.
10. Provide technical support and troubleshooting assistance to end-users, addressing network-related issues promptly and effectively.
11. Collaborate with IT teams and vendors to plan and execute network infrastructure upgrades, migrations, and expansion projects.
12. Stay up-to-date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in network administration, and make recommendations for continuous improvement and innovation.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Experience: Three years and six months of experience, two years of experience planning, integrating and maintaining software and hardware for local or wide area computer networks and an additional eighteen months of experience converting data from project specifications by preparing program code using generally accepted computer programming languages or other developmental tools; planning, installing and maintaining data communications network lines and devices; or evaluating, implementing and maintaining computer hardware and software.
Notes:
1. Candidates may substitute graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate and fifteen credit hours from an accredited college or university in systems analysis and applications programming using generally accepted computer programming languages or other developmental tools for the additional eighteen months of the required experience.
2. Candidates may substitute graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate and completion of a certification program in Network Administration, such as Certified Novell Administrator (CNA), Microsoft Certified Product Specialist NT 4.0 Administrator or equivalent certification program for the additional eighteen months of the required experience.
3. Candidates may substitute experience in one of the following areas on a year-for-year basis for graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate: operating computer systems, scheduling, controlling input and output or maintaining backups or data storage, processing data on computer systems, evaluating, implementing and maintaining computer hardware and software or converting data from project specifications by developing programs using generally accepted computer programming languages or other developmental tools.
4. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor's degree in computer information technology, management information systems or other information technology related field, including course work in local or wide area computer networks, from an accredited college or university and two years of experience planning, integrating and maintaining software and hardware for local or wide area computer networks for the required experience.
5. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Network Analyst classifications or Network Integration and Management specialty codes in the Information Technology field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS
The following is a required qualification. Candidates MUST possess one of the following:
Two (2) years of experience configuring, securing, and troubleshooting Cisco data & voice network hardware, managing Microsoft Windows Server 2016 or newer Active Directory domain networks, and managing integrated on-prem and cloud services.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
· Completion of a certification program in one of the following active network administration programs:
Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), Microsoft Certified Solutions Engineer (MCSE), VMware Certified Professional 5 (VCP5), ISC(2) Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), or Global Information Assurance Certification (GIAC)
· Working knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server database administration and disaster recovery.
· Experience using data & voice network access, management, communications and security software and hardware including next generation firewall, intrusion detection and prevention tools.
· Experience with firewalls, routers, managed switches, VOIP telephones and services, VPN technologies on an Ethernet LAN and MPLS (Layer 3 VPRN) WAN.
· Working knowledge of Cisco Unified Communications Manager Business Edition version 12.0+ hardware and software including managed POE switches, FXS/FXO, PSTN circuits and carriers.
· Business systems analysis, project management, systems integration, deployment, and failover/disaster recovery skills in a complex multi-location and multi-platform environment including Windows servers, VMware Vsphere Enterprise 7.5, cloud-based applications and services as well as converged voice & data networks.
· Familiarity with IIS web security architecture, experience in network security best practices, monitoring, intrusion prevention and detection and data encryption methodologies helpful.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
· Employees in this classification may be subject to call 24 hours a day and, therefore, may be required to provide the employing agency with a telephone number where the employee can be reached. Employees may be furnished with a cell phone.
· The nature of the duties of this position requires that the employee be able to drive an automobile. A motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland and a clean driver’s record is required before appointment to position in this class is made permanent.
