Introduction

Spring Grove Hospital Center is a state psychiatric facility that provides a broad spectrum of inpatient psychiatric services.  The center is located on a scenic 200-acre campus in Catonsville, Maryland, just outside of Baltimore.

Main Purpose of Job

To provide psychological services, including assessment and psychotherapy in an inpatient, adolescent and adult facility, under general supervision.

Per the Amended Directive and Order Regarding Vaccination (MDH # 2023.04.18.03) issued by the Secretary of the Maryland Department of Health, effective April 18, 2023, staff in all hospitals and residential facilities operated by the Maryland Department of Health or any local health department are required to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination. Staff includes, but is not limited to, regular and contractual employees, contractual staff, volunteers, and other state employees performing any duties at the facility. An individual may request accommodation by providing appropriate and sufficient documentation for bona fide medical or religious reasons.

POSITION DUTIES

This position will provide psychological services at a 24-hour facility by performing psychological evaluations, psychotherapy and psychological reviews to mental health patients which includes all patients. These services are performed at the general supervisory level. This position may supervise non-licensed psychology staff, interns, and psychology students, receives general supervision ad is emergency essential.

Vaccine Requirement: Per the emergency regulation issued by the U.S. Centers for Medicare & Medicare Services (CMS) (86 FR 61555), and as permitted to go into effect by the U.S. Supreme Court on January 12, 2022, all staff of the MDH Healthcare System facilities required to show proof of first dose or single does of COVID-19 vaccination 14 days after start date of employment.  Staff includes, but is not limited to, regular and contractual employees, contractual staff, volunteers, and other state employees performing any duties at the facility.  All staff are required to complete the full shot regimen, including any booster shot, as clinically indicated in order to satisfy this requirement.  Candidates with an approved medical or religious reason for vaccination exemption must provide proof of exemption prior to appointment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:   Determined by the Maryland State Board of Examiners of Psychologists under the licensing requirements for Psychologists.

Experience: Two years of experience rendering psychological services or engaged in psychological research after receipt of the Psychologist license.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Candidates for this classification must be licensed as a Psychologist by the Maryland Board of Examiners of Psychologists prior to permanent appointment to a position.  Applicants who do not have a Maryland license may apply before receipt of the required license but the application will be designated in pending status by the Maryland Department of Health (MDH) Testing Unit. When the license has been obtained, submit a copy of the license to MDH to remove the pending status from the application.

2. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties that require operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
