LOCATION OF POSITION
MDH-Potomac Center/SETT, Hagerstown, MD
Main Purpose of Job
The main purpose of this position, under general direction and auspices of a Registered Nurse, shall provide medical services to and supervision of developmentally disabled individuals entrusted to home's care.
When teamed with a Registered Nurse, the position shall discharge LPN duties of an intermediate nature including continuing alertness to individuals' health status in compliance with sound nursing practices and judgment and applicable Center policies and procedures; monitor associates' compliance with home's operating procedures and assess associates' performance in terms of quality and quantity of services in such areas as: adherence to applicable guidelines; conformance with instructions; demeanor and rapport with Individuals; and following program and data collection requirements including notes and reports; bring problems or concerns about same to Home Manager and/or RN's timely attention. This position shall strictly adhere to pertinent medical protocols including RN/physician alerts or reports; medications; assessments; evidence of injury or symptoms of illness; and written entries in appropriate documents in a timely and accurate manner. Finally, discharging all duties and conducting oneself at all times per all relevant regulations, standards, policies and procedures including: Departments of Budget and Management and Maryland Department of Health; Title 17 CODE OF MARYLAND REGULATIONS; MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING; Office of Health Quality; ICF-MR; Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services; The Council on Quality and Leadership in Supports for People with Disabilities; and Potomac Center.
To efficaciously fulfill totality of duties enumerated herein in timely and prescribed manner, following are deemed ESSENTIAL condition precedents:
• Help all those served achieve their best possible health.
• Health those served achieve personal outcomes.
• Reporting per schedule on a regular and continuing basis inclusive of holidays, weekends, overtime, and per EMERGENCY status requirements, etc.;
• Willingness and ability to personally perform physically demanding tasks requiring lifting, transferring, supporting, et al;
• Personally adhering to and monitoring associates compliance with all applicable protocols, standards, and policies & procedures
and addressing any deviation from same in an appropriate, timely and confidential manner;
• Maintaining open communications with associate staff, Registered Nurse, and Director of Nursing;
• Ensuring accountability throughout shift for staff and Individuals; and
• Keeping Home Manager informed of questions/problems/issues arising over the course of shift.
Per the Amended Directive and Order Regarding Vaccination (MDH # 2023.04.18.03) issued by the Secretary of the Maryland Department of Health, effective April 18, 2023, staff in all hospitals and residential facilities operated by the Maryland Department of Health or any local health department are required to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination. Staff includes, but is not limited to, regular and contractual employees, contractual staff, volunteers, and other state employees performing any duties at the facility. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Determined by the Maryland Board of Nursing under the licensing requirements for Practical Nurses.
Experience: None.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
The desired candidate should possess experience working with developmentally disabled and/or forensic populations and clear understanding of medical protocols including
RN/physician alerts or reports; medications; assessments; evidence of injury or
symptoms of illness; and written entries in appropriate documents in a timely and
accurate manner.
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
1. Candidates for positions in this classification must possess a current license as a Practical Nurse from the Maryland Board of Nursing.
2. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be require to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
3. Employees in this classification may be required to successfully complete and maintain current certification of cardiopulmonary resuscitation training.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
1. Employees in this classification are subject to call-in, and therefore, will be required to provide the facility with a telephone number where they can be reached.
2. Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 17.04.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.
