Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this part time position is to provide direct care to children and adolescents with emotional disabilities including court involved youth, through clinical service such as crisis intervention and group therapy, and individual and family therapy if needed, to facilitate attainment of improved mental health and more effective social and family functioning in a residential and day treatment mental health program for children and adolescents. This position will work within a multidisciplinary treatment team and will utilize their special skills in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and/or Expressive Therapy.

Vaccine Requirement: Per the emergency regulation issued by the U.S. Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) (86 FR 61555), and as permitted to go into effect by the U.S. Supreme Court on January 13, 2022, all staff of the MDH Healthcare System facilities required to show proof of first dose or single dose of COVID-19 vaccination 14 days after start date of employment. Staff includes, but is not limited to, regular and contractual employees, contractual staff, volunteers, and other state employees performing any duties at the facility. All staff are required to complete the full shot regimen, including any booster shot, as clinically indicated in order to satisfy this requirement. Candidates with an approved medical or religious reason for vaccination exemption must provide proof of exemption prior to appointment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Determined by the Maryland State Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists under the requirements for Licensed Graduate Professional Counselor (LGPC).

Experience: None.

Note: These requirements are established by the Maryland State Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists. The Department of Budget and Management, Office of Personnel Services and Benefits does not have the authority to accept substitutions or equivalents.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. In accordance with Health Occupations Title 17 and Code of Maryland Regulations 10.58.01.09, a candidate placed in this classification must be licensed as a Graduate Professional Counselor by the Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists.

2. Employees certified as a Licensed Graduate Professional Counselor (LGPC) may practice graduate professional counseling for 2 years under the supervision of an approved supervisor. As required by the Maryland State Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists, these employees must possess certification as a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) by the end of this 2 year period.

3. Candidates appointed to positions in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
