Main Purpose of Job
POSITION DUTIES
- Plan Physical Therapy Services for all patients referred by the physician. Perform initial physical therapy evaluations which may include, but not limited to an assessment of range of motion, strength, coordination, sensation, gait skills, transfer skills, equipment needs and/or use. Exercise independent judgement in interpretation of referrals, development of treatment plan, methods of intervention and assessment of patient progress. Supervise and instruct in adjusting treatment plans to the patient’s needs. Motivate patients to accept and participate in treatment.
- Determine methodology of the evaluation process for physical therapy and develop evaluation tools as required, exercising skilled professional judgement.
- Administer physical therapy treatments.
- Schedule patients for initial and follow-up treatment visits.
- Instruct patients and/or patient’s family/caregiver in follow up treatment planning upon discharge from physical therapy.
- Provide consultation for special equipment, perform measurement/fittings, or arrange for measurement/fittings of orthopedic shoes, wheelchairs, ambulation aids, prosthetics and orthotics, splints, etc. Participate in team and individualized treatment planning meetings, representing Physical Therapy. Reports progress and response to treatment to insure coordination of treatment program. Recommend other treatment and after care.
- Submit for inclusion on the medical record the results of evaluations on referred patients including treatment recommendations, treatment goals, and methods to achieve goals, patient’s expressed goals and anticipated outcomes.
- Document on the medical record the patient’s response to treatment, treatment modalities, consequent changes, and on-going recommendations in response to the individualized treatment plan.
- Prepare and submit physical therapy treatment statistical and narrative reports, inspections, and audits on a regular basis.
- Be responsible for maintaining tools and equipment in good repair and safe operating condition.
- Assure that adequate supply stock is maintained and coordinate ordering.
- Increase quantity and quality of professional knowledge of current Physical Therapy and related subjects through study of current literature, participation in facility in-service and continuing education sessions and out-of-agency conferences and workshops.
- Encourage and provide opportunities for staff development through an organized program of in-service training.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Determined by the Maryland State Board of Physical Therapy Examiners under the licensing requirements for Physical Therapists.
Experience: Three years of experience as a Physical Therapist.
Notes:
1. A Master’s degree in Physical Therapy from an accredited college or university may be substituted for two years of the required experience.
2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Therapy classifications or Therapy specialty codes in the Physical Therapy field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates that have
experience in a psychiatric setting will be given preference. Experience with
state government and accreditation regulations is a plus.
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
1. Candidates for positions in this classification must possess a current license as a Physical Therapist from the Maryland State Board of Physical Therapy Examiners, 4140 Patterson Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland 21215.
2. Employees in this classification may be required to successfully complete and maintain current certification of cardiopulmonary resuscitation training.
3. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of an automobile. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland
