POSITION DUTIES

The main purpose of this job is to support the mission of the organization through active participation in clinical efforts to provide treatment in a recovery-oriented environment. The foundation of a recovery-oriented environment is respect and a commitment to safety in the least restrictive manner possible. A staff physician is charged with the duty of evaluating, diagnosing, admitting, treating patients, and making discharge and after-care plans for the patients admitted to the hospital, with the participation of the patients, most commonly of young adult age and middle age, less commonly of geriatric age, and only rarely adolescents on the deaf unit. All clinical activities and duties which include regular assignments and serving elsewhere as needed, are to be carried out in accordance with hospital policies, rules, and regulations in accordance with performance improvement goals, and within the fiscal constraints mandated to the hospital. All clinical activities are to be documented in the medical record as required by hospital policies.


NOTICE: Federal COVID-19 Vaccination Requirement for Certain Maryland Department of Health (MDH) Employees.

Per the emergency regulation issued by the U.S. Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) (86 FR 61555), and as permitted to go into effect by the U.S. Supreme Court on January 13, 2022, all staff at the Maryland Department of Health’s CMS certified health care facilities are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or have an approved religious or medical exemption. 

If selected for this position, candidates will be required to provide proof of vaccination status or apply and be approved for a religious or medical exemption prior to appointment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A Doctorate degree in medicine from an accredited college or university.

Experience: Four years of experience in the practice of medicine.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Master’s degree in public health from an accredited college or university for one year of the required experience.

2. Candidates may substitute successful completion of internships and residencies in medicine as qualifying medical experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Medical Corpsman and Physicians classifications or Nursing or Physician and Medical Services and Special Corpsman Officer specialty codes in the medicine field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Applicants for this classification must be licensed by the Maryland Board of Physicians to practice medicine under Maryland State Law. A copy of the current license must be attached to the application.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 17.04.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.
