Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this full-time contractual position will be to support a wide range of operational needs including mail and courier services using a state vehicle, inventory management, ground work, and janitorial services.

DUTIES INCLUDE:

Maintenance: This position will be responsible for facility maintenance at the newly renovated Health Hub. This will include communicating with independent contractors regarding maintenance and repair needs outside the scope of work of this position. This may include soliciting repair estimates and completion of fiscal requisitions for repairs. Additionally, this position will provide janitorial services for the Health Hub. Janitorial services will be based on OSHA requirements and Agency standards. The Health Hub is a clinical facility, as such the employee may be exposed to bio-medical waste. OSHA training will be provided on an ongoing basis.

Mail/Courier Services: This position will be primarily located at the Health Hub located in Lexington Park and will travel to the Health Department main location in Leonardtown on a regular basis. Additional travel between satellite facilities and community partners may be scheduled as needed. Travel will be restricted to St. Mary's County for the purpose of delivering interoffice mail/packaging, laundry service (drop off and pickup with contracted provided), and delivery of public health supplies to community partners. The duties of this position require use of a State government vehicle to perform the assigned essential job functions. Therefore, the employee must possess and maintain a valid Class C non-commercial driver’s license valid in the State of Maryland. Driving privileges will be regularly monitored for compliance.

Inventory: This position will manage inventory related to maintenance and janitorial services for the Health Hub. This position will also assist the Property Officer in conducting property inventory at the Health Hub and may assist with inventory reports as needed. This position will also require use of spreadsheets, email, and a state issued cell phone.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:   Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Two years of experience in general services functions, office administration activities or in the receiving, storing, issuance, purchase or requisition of equipment, materials, and parts and supplies.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute additional experience as stated above on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in logistics specialist classifications or administrative support specialty codes in the logistics field of work, on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

Candidates may remain on the certified eligible list for a period of at least one year. The resulting certified eligible list for this recruitment may be used for similar positions in this or other State agencies.

BENEFITS

Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.

Leave may be granted to a contractual employee who has worked 120 days in a 12 month period. This leave accrues at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
