LOCATION OF POSITION
POSITION DUTIES
Are you comfortable with personal computers and skilled in
problem analysis? If this describes you, the Comptroller of Maryland, Compass
Division is seeking Temporary Testers to assist us in user acceptance testing
for tax applications currently in development.
As part of our team, testing specialists will be responsible for conducting
user acceptance and model office testing, reporting test results to define
functionality flaws and the participation in various meetings with the Portal
oversight team We will offer system and tax training and provide equipment.
Temporary positions can enhance your resume and can lead to more permanent
opportunities.
PLEASE NOTE: Must work on site in Annapolis, Monday through Friday in a full-time
capacity. Required hours are 8:00 am to 4:30 pm. Leave may be
limited during certain times of the year especially during peak times of the
year. Employees are unable to prepare tax returns outside of the
requirements of the job or work for private accounting services.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school
equivalency certificate.
Experience: Two years of experience involving one or more of the following
duties: providing problem analysis and user support, testing or training users
on application functionality, coordinating application or system design,
development and implementation, or technical related work.
- Candidates may substitute additional education at an accredited college or university at the rate of thirty credit hours for one year of the required experience.
- Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Human Resources Management, Public Administration, Information Technology or other related field with specific coursework in the structure and use of automated information systems for the required experience.
- Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in accounting and budget classification or accounting and budget specialty codes in the financial clerical and technician field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in user acceptance testing for web or main frame applications.
- Ability to work independently, utilizing only testing manuals and scripts.
- Maryland tax knowledge.
- Knowledge and understanding of the system development life cycle.

Qualifying
applicants are subject to an oral interview. Prior to appointment, the employee
must successfully undergo a comprehensive background investigation including a
review of criminal, MVA and tax records; and determination of legal
authorization to work in the United States or under the United States
Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986. This background check is
comprehensive and may involve fingerprinting. Upon initial appointment OR
promotion to a position in the State Personnel Management System, an employee
is required to serve an initial six- month probationary period. This
probationary period may be extended an additional six months under certain
circumstances at the discretion of the appointing authority.
