Introduction

The Maryland Historical Trust (MHT) is the state agency dedicated to preserving and interpreting the legacy of Maryland’s past.  Through research, conservation, and education, MHT assists the people of Maryland in understanding their historical and cultural heritage.  Part of the Maryland Department of Planning, the Maryland Historical Trust serves as Maryland’s State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) pursuant to the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966.

POSITION DUTIES

This contractual position serves as a Tax Credit Program Assistant for the three Rehabilitation Tax Credit Programs within MHT’s Office of Preservation Services. The position will be a liaison with program applicants, MHT reviewers, and the National Park Service (NPS) and will facilitate application intake through NPS and MHT online portals. The position will evaluate applications for eligibility, completeness, and accuracy; complete initial reviews of proposed rehabilitation work for compliance with the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Rehabilitation; and facilitate final review by MHT and NPS reviewers. The position will serve a key role in maintenance and organization of the program’s online portals and in the development and implementation of electronic applications. The position will also provide technical assistance to applicants, participate in outreach activities to promote the tax credit programs, assist with program reporting, and perform additional duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in Historic Preservation, Architecture, Architectural History, American Studies, History, Public History, or other closely related field

 

Experience: One year of professional experience.

One year of professional experience in historic preservation, architecture, history, administrative support, and / or data management.

Experience creating or reviewing technical plans and drawings.

Experience applying the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Rehabilitation to development or review of proposed rehabilitation projects.

BENEFITS

Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.

Leave may be granted to a contractual employee who has worked 120 days in a 12 month period. This leave accrues at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
