Introduction

As part of the Maryland State Department of Education, the Division of Rehabilitation Services (DORS) provides services to assist students with disabilities prepare for the work world, vocational rehabilitation services to assist adults with significant disabilities who are seeking to enter or reenter the workforce, and the adjudication of Social Security disability claims for the citizens of Maryland.

POSITION DUTIES

In its mission to fulfill the disability claims adjudication goals of the agency, this is a statewide managerial-level position which leads, directs, coordinates the Medical/Professional Relations (MRO) program for the Maryland Disability Determination Services (DDS) concerning the internal and external professional community, and ensures the effective and efficient management of the Consultative Examination Unit. This important role ensures compliance with Social Security Administration (SSA) programmatic regulations, requirements, reporting, procurement of medical evidence, and licensing of medical providers.

Position Duties Include:

  • Overseeing and managing DDS marketing initiatives
  • Planning, coordinating, developing, and conducting a statewide marketing, liaison, and educational program for medical and educational professionals and elected officials
  • Managing and coordinating the work of the MRO staff
  • Establishing program priorities to execute and achieve the agency's mission
  • Developing policies and procedures to satisfy compliance with national SSA and State standards to ensure program integrity and anti-fraud initiatives
  • Reviewing current and proposed legislation and SSA policy changes to assess impact and assure implementation
  • Serving as the informational contact and liaison for community and advocacy groups, disseminating information about the disability programs, resolving issues and concerns, and representing DDS on advisory panels and work groups
  • Conducting ongoing training programs of providers when SSA regulation or policy changes take effect
  • Managing onsite reviews of key providers for the purpose of inspecting the worksite and verifying compliance with SSA and DDS standards


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university

Experience: Three years of professional work with community programs and/or marketing community organizations. Two years of the required experience must have been in a supervisory role.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to applicants who possess the following preferred qualifications. Include clear and specific information on your application regarding your qualifications.

- Experience with project management and team performance

- Experience creating and evaluating business processes and their implementation

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

A suitability determination by the Social Security Administration is necessary to determine whether an employee can be issued credentials.
