This is a Management Service position which serves at the pleasure of the Appointing Authority (“at-will”).

LOCATION OF POSITION

Positions are available with the Department of General Services (DGS), Office of Facilities Management located in Annapolis (Anne Arundel County) and Ellicott City (Howard County), Maryland.

Main Purpose of Job

The Assistant Superintendent will provide oversight and direction for all facility projects and daily maintenance operations as well as assist the Superintendent in providing leadership in the day-to-day administration, budget preparation, supervision and operation of facilities.

 

This position must be available to potentially assist during off-duty hours in the event of an emergency and when the Superintendent is not available.

POSITION DUTIES

Duties for this position include but are not limited to:

- Manages, monitors and coordinates the safe operation of State facilities.

- Provides guidance and leadership to Regional Managers and reports discrepancies or concerns to the Superintendent.

- Provides technical assistance for capital and facility renewal projects during the development, planning, design and construction phase to monitor progress.

- Oversees the development of Standard Operating Procedures.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:  Possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, preferably in Business, Management, Property/Real Estate Management, Construction Management, or a related field. Additional experience as noted below may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis. 

Experience:  Four (4) years of full-time experience in a responsible professional capacity in the operation of a large public building, hospital, educational complex, industrial plant or large commercial structure. Three (3) years of this experience must include responsibility for fiscal planning, contract negotiations, office management and supervision of skilled building maintenance personnel.

The examination for this position will consist of a rating of your education, training and experience related to the requirements of the position. Successful candidates will be placed on the employment eligibility list categorized as BEST QUALIFIED, BETTER QUALIFIED, or QUALIFIED. The eligibility list will be valid for one year and may be extended. The list will be used by the hiring authority to select employees for interviews. Eligible lists may be used to fill future vacancies of the same classification.

Please note, selected candidates may be required to complete and successfully pass a State and Federal fingerprint background check prior to being hired.
