Introduction

This is a position specific recruitment for the Maryland Department of Natural Resources, Chesapeake and Coastal Watershed. This recruitment will be used to fill current vacancies for the position and may be used to fill future vacancies in the same classification/function. Future vacancies may also be filled via other recruitments. The resulting eligible list will be maintained for one year.

Main Purpose of Job

As Director of the Center for Economic and Social Science in the Chesapeake & Coastal Service Unit, the incumbent leads the Department in the development, analysis and delivery of environmental and socioeconomic research and data to inform natural resource-based management decisions, programs and policies. This includes directing the development and use of scientific information describing climate, natural environmental hazards, and quantifying the ecological and socio-economic impact of Chesapeake and Coastal restoration, conservation and planning services to help society and commerce prepare for a constantly changing environment while maintaining and accelerating Chesapeake Bay restoration. The position provides leadership for characterizing the economic or social aspects of natural resource management. 

 This position is responsible for cross-unit and intra-agency coordination to ensure that science-based decision support tools and information are developed, translated and applied in a manner that directly informs unit and agency-wide financial and technical service delivery. It requires a strong foundation in geo-spatial applications to support the management, supervision and direction of three professional staff and seasonal interns.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
Experience: Five years of experience in natural resource management or applied environmental science.  

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in Ecology, Geographic Information Technology, Natural Resources, Environmental Economics, Ecological Economics, Environmental Science, Geography, Information Technology, or environmental related field.
