LOCATION OF POSITION
This position is available within DGS - Office of Real Estate, located in 300 W. Preston St., Baltimore, MD 21201
Main Purpose of Job
This position within DGS' Office of Real Estate is responsible for implementing lease construction projects and managing the planning,
design, and construction of tenant improvements averaging $50 million annually. This includes
overseeing the development and review of construction drawings; ensuring adherence to local
building codes; verifying that building codes, state standards, and agency requirements are properly
interpreted and applied to projects; and providing final approval for the acceptance of completed
construction projects to enable State agencies to occupy new or renovated lease space.
The duties of the position include, but are not limited to:
Manage construction project meetings for the development and approval of architectural and
construction drawings and documents complying with local codes, state standards and
agency requirements.
Design and implement internal training to maintain knowledge of industry standards,
professional practices and state laws and regulations.
Formulate and implement policies, procedures, and programs for the division.
Maintain and prepare statistical data for annual reporting.
Manage the coordination of design and construction activities to ensure on-time completion
of all required construction activities within the project schedule.
Manage the approval of agency construction budgets for tenant improvements in commercial
leased space.
Oversee inspections by staff of leased facilities to ensure it meet the provisions of the
construction drawings and lease documents.
Conduct training for agencies on project management, code changes, standard space
updates, and internal training for the Lease Compliance unit and Lease Management &
Procurement unit on best practices related to the construction of leased facilities.
Serve as acting leader of the Lease Compliance unit in the absence of the Chief, and
participate in all COOP planning events, and function as member of COOP team.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Experience: At least five (5) years of professional experience managing construction projects, to include at least two (2) years of experience supervising a team of construction / project managers.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Preference will be given to applicants that possess the following preferred qualification(s). Include clear and specific information on your application regarding the qualifications.
A Bachelor's degree in architecture or construction management from an accredited college or university is preferred.
Strong written and verbal communication skills for dealing with agency management, staff, landlords, property owners, architects, and general contractors is strongly preferred.
