Main Purpose of Job

The mission of the Maryland Department of Health (MDH)'s Prevention and Health Promotion Administration (PHPA) is to protect, promote and improve the health and well-being of all Marylanders and their families through the provision of public health leadership and community-based public health efforts, in partnership with Local Health Departments (LHDs), providers, community-based organizations, and public and private sector agencies, with special attention to at-risk and vulnerable populations. Within PHPA, the Infectious Disease Prevention and Health Services Bureau (IDPHSB) works to improve the health of Marylanders by reducing the transmission of infectious diseases and helping impacted people live longer and healthier lives. The Bureau works in partnership with Local Health Departments (LHDs), providers, community-based organizations, and public and private sector agencies, in order to provide public health leadership in preventing, controlling, monitoring, and treating infectious diseases.

PHPA's Center for Harm Reduction Services (CHRS) manages the Statewide response to the evolving needs of Marylanders who are impacted by drug use at the individual, community and system levels. The Chief of the CHRS holds a unique role that is vital to MDH's mission and manages operations which are not found in other agencies. This position will direct the Center portfolio of policy initiatives, legislative implementation, directly-funded programs, and a Community Advisory Committee that is chaired by the Deputy Secretary for Public Health Services, in accordance with the authorizing statute. 

This position will utilize personal contacts and make recommendations directly to the Deputy Secretary of Health, Public Health Services. This position will also manage commitments to MDH leadership, while being responsible for Statewide initiative planning and execution. This position must exhibit creative thought and operate with limited supervision.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Qualified candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and six (6) years of professional experience in a health or human services field, including three (3) years of experience managing a multidisciplinary team.

This is a Management Service position and serves at the pleasure of the Appointing Authority. A resume must accompany your application.
