This is a Management Service position which serves at the pleasure of the Appointing Authority (“at-will”).

LOCATION OF POSITION

This position is available with the Department of General Services (DGS), Office of Facilities Management, located at 29 St. Johns Street, Annapolis, MD 21401.

The Maryland Department of General Services (DGS) is looking for a Director of Operations for the Office of Facilities Management. This position will primarily provide executive level leadership and oversight of DGS Facilities Management staff who are directly involved in the daily work of operating and maintaining DGS buildings.  This position ensures projects are completed and the priorities of the office and the department are met.

POSITION DUTIES

Duties include but are not limited to:

· Develop strategic plans, standard operating procedures and detailed work plans.

· Recommend policies and identify ways to promote more efficient operations.

· Resolve departmental issues and interpret policies.  

· Function as liaison between senior management and subordinate staff.  

· Coordinate with other divisions on maintenance and capital projects.  

· Ensure operations stay within budget.

· Represent the office at internal and external meetings with other agencies, officials and the general public.  

· Communicate goals and priorities effectively.  

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred Qualifications:


Possession of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university.

- At least five (5) years of professional experience as a senior level manager of commercial or government office building management, operations and maintenance.  

- At least five (5) years of professional experience performing maintenance on building mechanical systems (such as but not limited to HVAC, electrical, plumbing, etc.).  

- At least two (2) years of experience developing strategic plans and standard operating procedures. 

- Strong written and verbal communication skills for dealing with executive level leadership team, agency management, staff, vendors and building tenants is preferred.
