Introduction

The P.R.O.T.E.C.T. Coordinator (Coordinator) supports the Governor’s Office of Crime Prevention, Youth, and Victim Services (the Office) with administering  the “End the Violence” Public Resources Organizing To End Crime Together Program. The program’s aim is to maximize the use of State, local, and community resources to combat neighborhood decline in communities throughout the State, while supporting comprehensive strategies to reduce crime and fear in those communities.

Main Purpose of Job

The Coordinator will be a full-time employee of the Governor’s Office of Crime Prevention, Youth, and Victim Services, and will report directly to the Director of Public Safety Strategies. Each Coordinator position will be responsible for one of ten micro-zones located throughout the State. 

The Coordinator will be required to live and work in Allegany County, MD. Will ensure utilization of all existing crime prevention programs and grants; coordinate community and youth programs; assist with community mobilization and activities to reclaim public space; assist with rapid response to public nuisances; coordinate community engagement with the local law enforcement agency within the given jurisdiction in the micro-zone; and develop strategies and positive relationships to reduce crime by meeting regularly with public safety partners, community and religious leaders. 

The Coordinator will collaborate and work within a team that includes local, state, and federal law enforcement partners, MCIN SITES, community groups, and other agencies involved in the implementation of Senate Bill 929, 2020/Chapter 20, 2021.

Must have excellent communication skills, both written and oral.

POSITION DUTIES

Project Management- Optimize services and benefits of a community for its improvement.  Diligently keeps track of community issues, such as its progression and crime. Connects the community to services and identifies benefits available to them, helps improve community service projects, and participates in the development of various community enhancement programs. Serves as a key point of contact for all involved stakeholders.  Works with law enforcement, local/state entities, and community members to increase collaborative efforts in initiatives while implementing creative approaches to problem-solving.  Attends community meetings and outreach events to foster relationships with various stakeholders to increase citizen engagement.

 

Programmatic-Supports the work of community leaders and criminal justice stakeholders throughout the county of assignment in which the micro-zones are located.  Partner with other P.R.O.T.E.C.T. coordinators and/or stakeholders in using data and research as the foundation for program development. Attends meetings and provides availability of grant programs in facilitating program efforts with law enforcement, businesses, community groups, and other relevant organizations.

 

Administrative-Submits progress reports relating to the Coordinator position bi-weekly.  As required by law, prepare a description of the Coordinator activities and results of any activities or projects during the year in which each micro-zone was established.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Three years of administrative staff or professional work.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute 30 college credit hours from an accredited college or university for each year up to two years of the required experience. 

2. Candidates may substitute the possession of a bachelor's degree from a college or university for the required experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer involving staff work that included the regular use of independent judgment and analysis in applying and interpreting complex administrative plans, policies, rules or regulations or analysis of operational programs or procedures with recommendations for improvement on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.  

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Our Preferred Candidate Will Have All of the Following:

 

Two years working in a Criminal Justice environment.

 

Program management experience working with business, community groups, local state or federal resources to collaborate in creating program/community awareness and change.

 

Administrative skills in the collection and analysis of data for preparing reports and tracking progress of activities and program results.
