Introduction

The Maryland Commission of African American History and Culture (MCAAHC), is seeking an experienced and energetic individual to fill the position of Administrator II (Curator of Collections).


 This is a Special Appointment position, and serves at the pleasure of the Appointing Authority.

Main Purpose of Job

Leads and manages the accessions, researches, and catalogues all objects collected and exhibited by Banneker-Douglass Museum including use of relevant records, as well as physical identification, legal status, historical use, care and storage items. Over sees the location and filing of information to enhance documentation and interpretation of collections.

POSITION DUTIES

● Plans and maintains policies and procedures which provide access to collections.
● Oversees the museum collection files; maintains collection database. 
● Ensures public accessibility of collections. 
● Develops and updates forms for collections administration. 
● Manages exhibition development and schedule in collaboration with Exhibition Manager and Executive Director.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A Bachelor's degree in Museum Studies or related degree from an accredited college or university.

Experience: Five years of experience in collections management and five years of curatorial experience.  This experience must include two years of supervisory or managerial experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred candidates should possess the following:

● Experience working in African American history, art, and culture organizations and/or groups. 
● Proficient in Microsoft Office applications such as Excel, Microsoft Office, and PowerPoint. 
● Computer software skills in collections database software (i.e., Past Perfect).
