Introduction
The Maryland Department of
Commerce is seeking qualified applicants for a part-time contractual Travel
Information Aide I position within the Office of Tourism
Development. This position is located
at the Youghiogheny Overlook Welcome Center on I-68 in Friendsville, Maryland. (Garrett
Co)
The incumbent will work 32 hours bi-weekly (16 hours per week).

the Youghiogheny Overlook Welcome Center on I-68 in Friendsville, Maryland
21531 at Mile Marker #6 (Eastbound).
Main Purpose of Job
The primary function of this
position will be to provide travel and historical information to Maryland
visitors.
POSITION DUTIES
Individuals will inform the traveling public about Maryland attractions, accommodations, recreational facilities, services and destinations; inform travelers about current events and activities; read maps and give specific directions to Maryland destinations, as well as provide assistance in reaching destinations. Inventory and supply management may be required: this may include lifting bulk packaging and operation of stock room equipment such as a hand truck.
The Welcome Center is open daily, 7 days per week, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Applicants must possess:
Education: A high school diploma or a State GED certificate
AND
Experience: Two (2) years of experience working in public information in a tourism-related industry (e.g., accommodations, campgrounds, travel development agency, information center, guide service, customer service, hospitality, etc.).
SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS
LIMITATIONS ON SELECTION
Applicants must be willing
to accept part-time employment at 16 hours per week (32 hours bi-weekly) and be willing to accept employment in
Friendsville, Maryland 181 miles (2 hours and 50
minutes) from the Baltimore Metro Area.
SELECTION PROCESS
BENEFITS
Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.
Leave may be granted to a contractual employee who has worked 120 days in a 12 month period. This leave accrues at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
