Main Purpose of Job

DoIT is seeking a part time Sr. Technical Writer to support our team in Crownsville, MD. This is a temporary contractual assignment scheduled to last 6 months. It will be a hybrid work schedule. Some in office work will be required in order to meet with subject matter experts and executive staff.

This position will research, write and create a new Statewide IT Master Plan for the Maryland Department of Information Technology. 

Will need to communicate effectively with agency and non-agency staff in order to gather information to create a high-quality document that is clear, concise and understandable to both technical and non-technical personnel. 

Must have excellent verbal and written English Communication Skills and understanding of industry IT language and requirements. 

Writing samples will be requested if chosen for an interview. 

 ***This is a short term contractual position with limited benefits***

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor’s degree in information technology, computer science or related field.

Experience: Six (6) years’ experience performing duties as an IT Sr. Technical Writer.  

Note:  A bachelors degree may be substituted for 4 additional years’ experience as a technical writer.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Prior experience creating an IT Master Plan or IT technical documents for a large-scale company, state or federal organization.

Experience working with the following coding tools will be preferred: HTML, JavaScript, CSS, Intercom, Mix panel, Jinja, Confluence/JIRA, Git & GitHub

BENEFITS

Contractual employees who work for an agency and have a current employment contract of 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) will be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents.   View rates on the Department of Budget & Management website, State Employees, Health Benefits, Contractual/Variable rates.

 

Leave

Paid leave will accrue at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked.
