Main Purpose of Job
To design, implement, and supervise a comprehensive educational after school program in order to promote the physical, cognitive, mental, emotional, and social behavioral growth of the deaf students and deaf students with special needs for the K-8th grade children.
POSITION DUTIES
Plan and implement
appropriate social, leisure, and recreational activities which will build
confidence and self-esteem in the children;
Coordinate athletic
program under the direction of the Student Life Department Director;
Support school
programs and initiatives and incorporate into after school activities;
Communicate with administrators,
staff, and parents on a monthly base with regards to the planned activities;
Communicate with the
parents regarding their children’s progress.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Recreational
Experience in scheduling and coordinating activities or other experiences
working with deaf children.
Must be fluent in American
Sign Language.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in recreation or education.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
New hires are subject
to a criminal background investigation at their own expense. (Maryland
Code, Family Law Article 1, Sections 5-560-568)

BENEFITS
Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.
Leave may be granted to a contractual employee who has worked 120 days in a 12 month period. This leave accrues at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
