Introduction
The Maryland School for the Deaf (MSD) is a diverse,
bilingual community who in partnership with families, provides an equitable and
exemplary education in a nurturing, engaging, and challenging environment to
ensure our students achieve personal excellence and become lifelong
learners. As such, we are looking for dedicated individuals who can join
us to support the education of the children at MSD.
This is an 11-month, school year position. This position does not work when school is
closed during winter break, spring break, and during the summer months.

Main Purpose of Job
The main purpose of this position is to assist the Director of Student Affairs with the operation of Frederick Campus, including but not limited to serving students, staff, teachers, families, and other stakeholders, including outside agencies.
The mission of our agency is the education of Deaf children, Pre-K through 12th grade. As such, the Office of Student Affairs (OSA) is responsible for student support and school wide programs (After School Program, Athletics, Student Development, Student Health Center, Student Life, Public Relations, Admissions, Outreach, etc.). Collaborate with the Office of the Superintendent, Columbia and Frederick Main Office teams, and support staff for individual school programs across both campuses.
The position requires a high degree of exercising discretion and independent judgment in the absence of direct supervision, in addition to the ability to prepare reports and correspondence in responding on behalf of the Director of Student Affairs, all accomplished with minimal direction or supervision. Analyze and interpret situations in order to develop solutions and alternatives. Many times, actual duties and responsibilities vary from assignment to assignment.
This position provides direct administrative support to the Director of Student Affairs in the performance of their campus-wide duties and responsibilities, and represents them in daily interactions with staff, students, parents, visitors, and other agencies.
POSITION DUTIES
Assist with
operations.
Serve students, families, teachers,
staff and other stakeholders, as well as representing MSD with both internal
and external customers and organizations. Provide general support to visitors.
Maintain school safety, daily
operations, student and staff well-being, attendance, performance reports, room
reservations.
Collaborate with the Office of the
Superintendent, Columbia and Frederick Main Office teams, and support staff for
individual school programs across both campuses.
Process and file paperwork.
Manage internal budget. Compliance
with state and federal expectations which includes managing audit and preparing
reports. Develops and analyzes financial reports and maintains selected fiscal
records.
Take detailed minutes and
distribute meeting notes. Plan Meetings.
Compiles, composes,
edits, produces and distributes a variety of documents including but, but not
limited to, detailed memos, e-mails, correspondence, reports, and other
community communications as needed.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
Experience: Five years of experience in administrative or professional work. Strong English writing skills required.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Proficient in or able
to carry a conversation in American Sign Language.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Demonstrated ability to accurately type on a keyboard
on a personal computer at a minimum of forty words per minute may be required,
depending on the specific requirements of the position.
