POSITION DUTIES

This position provides the full performance level of clinical psychiatric services to adolescents, suffering from serious emotional behavioral health care issues. Psychiatric treatment, including psychiatric evaluations, psychopharmacology and supervision of clinical team is provided in a 24/7 facility, RICA-Baltimore, by licensed and board certified psychiatrists.

  • Plans and participates in the psychiatric medical care of patients in a 24 hour Maryland Department of Health facility. Assesses and diagnoses patient’s psychiatric condition.  Determines care needed and care to be provided.  Examines and treats patients based on diagnoses.  Provides psychotherapy for patients as a treatment modality that effects an emotional, cognitive and behavioral change and addresses problems which prompted or perpetuates hospitalization.
  •  Provides oversight, develops, implements and consults on individualized patient treatment plans based on assessments and diagnoses. Participates in regular plan reviews, patient care monitoring, and treatment team strategy meetings.  Advises health care support staff of appropriate treatment techniques needed for individual cases.     
  •  Prescribes medications and treatments as indicated by diagnoses.     
  •  Analyzes reports and findings in order to determine patients’ progress and adjusts treatment plan accordingly.  Reviews treatment plan and progress for the purpose of facilitating a timely discharge or transition to the most appropriate and least restrictive setting. Consults with treatment team regarding overall case management, discharge/aftercare planning issues.     
  •  Provides psychiatric and medical coverage on an ongoing basis and as needed to cover for absent co-workers. Provides consultation and recommendations by phone to staff.                 
  •  Conducts assessment following seclusion/restraint incidents.      
  •  Conducts clinical rounds and reviews progress of patients.
  •  Meets with patients and their families to discuss treatment plans and address concerns.    
  •  Provides high quality medical record documentation.  Reviews patients’ records to assure their adequacy and proper administration. Participates in agency efforts around electronic medical record keeping.    
  •  Participates in unit based and facility -wide performance improvement activities to promote patient care delivery of the highest quality
  •  Attends staff meetings and participates in diagnostic and treatment discussions.  Maintains mandatory trainings as required by the facility in order to meet compliance, accreditation and licensure requirements.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:     Determined by the Maryland State Board of Physicians under the licensing requirements for Physicians.

Experience:   As required for certification in Psychiatry by the American Medical Association Specialty Board or other Board approved by the Maryland Board of Physicians.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

1. Certification in Child Psychiatry by the American Medical Association Specialty Board or other Board approved by the Maryland Board of Physicians.

2. Expereicne working with child clients in a psychiatric setting.

LIMITATIONS ON SELECTION

This position is limited to current MDH - RICA Baltimore staff only.  

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Applicants for this classification must be board certified in Psychiatry by the American Board of Medical Specialties or other Board approved by the Maryland Board of Physicians.

2. Applicants for this classification must be licensed by the Maryland Board of Physicians to practice medicine under Maryland State Law. A copy of a current Maryland medical license and board certification should be attached to the application.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 17.04.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.
