Introduction

As part of the Maryland State Department of Education, the Division of Rehabilitation Services (DORS) provides services to assist students with disabilities prepare for the work world, vocational rehabilitation services to assist adults with significant disabilities who are seeking to enter or reenter the workforce, and the adjudication of Social Security disability claims for the citizens of Maryland.

POSITION DUTIES
The Deputy Superintendent of Accountability serves on the State Superintendent’s Senior Management Team, leading and directing efforts to provide MSDE with actionable information about student learning and MSDE’s response for providing information and direction to Local Education Agencies. This position identifies best practices for MSDE’s response and direction to address and implement the Maryland Blueprint for Education and the MSDE’s multi-year Strategic Plan. The position works with the State Superintendent of Schools and the State Board of Education to develop clear direction for MSDE, providing technical assistance and intervention for situations involving Local Education Agencies and constituents.
Finally, this position oversees
and leads assigned Divisions of MSDE including the Division of Rehabilitation
Services, Division of Assessment, Accountability, and Performance Reporting,
Division of Educator Certification and Program Approval, and the Division of
Student Support, Academic Enrichment and Educational Policy.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: A
Master’s degree in Educational Leadership, School Administration, Public
Policy, or a related field from an accredited college or university.
Experience: Eight
years of experience in leadership with expertise in the areas of developing strategies
and frameworks for the effective implementation of policies and initiatives.
Notes: Candidates may substitute the possession of a
Doctorate degree from an accredited college or university in a field related to
the position for two years of the required experience.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Preference will be given to applicants who possess the
following preferred qualification(s). Include clear and specific

- Senior level experience in planning and leading expansive, mission-critical projects.
- Experience working
strategically and collaboratively across functions, influencing others to
achieve outcomes.
- Experience in and understanding of prekindergarten through grade 12 or Division of Rehabilitation Services structure, management, legislation.
