Main Purpose of Job

This position the applicant would manage and improve IT infrastructurecollaborate with technical and IT internal and external partnersand perform regular site updates.

POSITION DUTIES

Communicate with the MD THINK team regarding servers that host our websites.
  •  Communicating and collaborating with the MD THINK Infrastructure team to implement WordPress and WordPress plugin updates.
  •  Communicating and collaborating with the MD THINK Infrastructure team to fix errors and optimize our WordPress websites.
  •  Becoming the bridge between the DHS Web Team and MD THINK, communicating server maintenance, policy decisions, or any other information.
Implement WordPress updates and plugin updates.
  •  Analyzing and recommending a course of action for WordPress plugins.
  •  Weighing security risks and plugin optimization.
Work with Data Team to create compelling data visualization.
  • Develop data visualization content for DHS websites at the request of Maryland.
  • Department of Human Services teams, offices, and programs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Experience: Two years and six months of experience, one year of experience in web page design, development and programming and an additional eighteen months of experience using software which  converts other documents into web pages; or using web page developmental software; or writing HTML code; or converting data from project specifications by preparing program code using computer programming languages; or evaluating, implementing and maintaining computer hardware and software; or operating, manipulating, and controlling computer systems.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate and completion of an approved certification program for Web Professionals sufficient to provide the necessary skills to build and manage an organization’s web site and to coordinate with inside and outside resources to accomplish that organization’s web goals for the additional eighteen months of the required experience.

2. Candidates may substitute additional experience in web page design, development and programming on a year-for-year basis for a high school education.

3. Candidates may substitute the possession of an Associate of Arts from an accredited college or university in Web Development, Computer Information Technology, Management Information Systems or other information technology related field to include course work in web page design, development and programming and one year of experience in web page design, development and programming for the required experience.

4. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Cyber and Information Systems classifications or Cyber and Information Systems specialty codes in the Information Technology field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The successful candidate will have demonstrated many or preferably all of the following:
    • One year of Experience with SQL (Structured Query Language).
    • One year of experience with UI Design.
    • One year of experience with Wordpress.

    BENEFITS

    Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.

     

    Leave may be granted to a contractual employee who has worked 120 days in a 12 month period. This leave accrues at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
