Participates in formal and on-the-job training programs related to safety and health inspection. Learns how to

interpret complex technical standards, policies and procedures necessary for enforcement of the Maryland

Occupational Safety and Health Law.

Under supervision, observes and participates in routine safety and health inspections and interventions in

private and public sector establishments.

Develops, prepares and submits oral and/or written reports of field activity as required and requested.

Performs other duties as assigned by management.

Notes: 

1. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in industrial hygiene, physical science or life science which includes 12 credit hours in chemistry and 18 additional credit hours in any combination of the following: chemistry, physics, engineering, health physics, environmental health, biostatistics, biology, physiology, toxicology, epidemiology or industrial hygiene for the required experience. 

Bachelor's degree in physical or life science (including those obtaining by June 2024)

Bachelor's degree in any other field

Units will select those candidates most closely demonstrating the qualifications for interview.

U.S. Military Veterans may qualify for additional bonus points towards certification. Any job offer will be contingent on the candidate providing a U.S. Military form DD 214 verifying honorable discharge from service prior to starting employment (and may be requested prior to interview). Permanent State employees do not need to submit proof of Veterans’ status.
