Main Purpose of Job

Under the direction of the Maryland Veterans Trust Fund Executive Director, this position shares responsibility for soliciting grant applications from veterans; assisting with the completion of grant applications (including verifying all required supporting information provided); making recommendations for grant approvals; communicating application status and determinations to applicants, and providing case management services to applicants in need of additional services.

POSITION DUTIES

Using a grant management database, review and evaluate applications for grants.  Follow up with applicants as necessary to obtain missing information.  Recommend grant applications to the Executive Director for approval and denial.  Communicate with applicants about grant approvals and denials.  Monitor the Veterans Trust Fund (VTF) incoming email for grant inquiries from applicants.  Speak with applicants by phone or email to assist with completing grant.  Provide case management services to veterans who indicate they require wrap-around service or referrals.

Process grant applications that are submitted by postal mail.  Where necessary, follow up with applicant by phone or email to gather missing documentation and other information necessary to make a recommendation for grant eligibility.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Experience: Five years of experience in grant evaluation and monitoring or budget preparation, presentation and execution.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and one year of experience in grant evaluation and monitoring or budget preparation, presentation and execution for the required experience.

2. Candidates may substitute graduate education from an accredited college or university in accounting, business administration, economics, finance, political science or public administration at a rate of 30 credit hours for the required experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in the Budget Officer classifications or Financial Management specialty codes in the Budgeting field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Two years experience of evaluating, and awarding grant applications for a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.

- Two years experience of communicating by email and phone with grant applicants, regarding applications, documentation and eligibility, including communication of sensitive or private health or financial information.
